POPULAR Photography

“This is the Costa of Fuencaliente in La Palma, one of Spain´s Canary Islands, at sunset, in December of 2007.The Photo is part of a personal Project .I used a Nikon D200 with 12-24 mm f /4G dx Nikkor lens. I needed to use a tripode, as I used a very slow shutter speed: 6 seconds at f/22 an ISO 100. I used manual focusing, and I played around over-or underexposing from the meter reading__this type of lighting tends to fool the meter. I also used a 3-stop split neutral-density filter to compensate for the lighting difference between teh sky and the coast. It’s really fun to take these pictures, because of the endless possibilities, but also very risky__ I have to be careful of slippery rocks, splashing water, and heavy waves, because for most of these images I’m standing in the water. Day-by-day experience and knowledge of the location are fundamental to this type of photography. But the most important advice is to be fully present, to have all five senses engaged.”
